If you are an AdSense publisher, especially a blogger, and if you use all the allowed number of AdSense standard ad units and link units (maximum 3 link units and 3 ad units on a page, the allowed two Google Search boxes not counted in the following hypothetical illustration), sometimes you must have noticed that ads of the same advertiser appearing in all the ad units and link units. But have you ever thought this can affect your AdSense income?
If the same Google ads of the same advertiser appear on a page, a visitor will click only any one of the ads, not all. That means the other ads on the page are simply wastage of valuable ad space. Taking the maximum number of ads that can appear in ad units and ad links, the best thing is that you get 30 different ads of different advertisers (6x5=30). If you can get this kind of ad placement by Google ads, you stand to gain the maximum clicks.
In the worst case, even if you have 30 ads, they can be of the same advertiser or different advertisers advertising on the same keyword. This is equivalent to getting only one AdSense ad, whereas, the maximum is 30 different ads. In other words, the umber of clicks can be reduced to 1 instead of 30 (the worst scenario).
The other possibility is that instead of 30 different ads (from total 3+3=6 ad units and link units), you will have one or two units displaying Google’s paying ads and the other ad boxes either displaying nonpaying PSA ads (Public Service Ads), or the other boxes simply going blank and showing empty spaces as if that space was left blank by you. This is what happens generally, instead a large number of repeated ads. This also affects your CTR (Click Through Rate) and along with it your AdSense income suffers.
Now you understand, even if your page is splattered with AdSense ads, you get the benefit of only one or two Google ads. Definitely it is bad, don’t you think so? Is there any solution to get rid of this problem? Yes, there are. The most common solution is using different topics and subtopics for each blog post and using a good number of well-thought out keywords and keyword phrases in each post. If you have 12 posts on a page, take care to write useful, engaging contents on 12 different topics for each post and use varied and relevant keywords relevant to your content. Most importantly, use the main keyword in the title of the post and this will dramatically improve your CTR and thereby your AdSense income.
Google uses the same algorithm used in content based indexing to decide about the ads to be placed on your pages. Mostly, the Google ads appearing on your pages are the ads of advertisers who use Google AdWords to advertise their sites. The rates for these ads are decided by competitive bidding based on keywords of the advertisers’ pages. If the AdSense bot finds the same keywords or related words on your page, that keyword related ads will be placed by Google Ads on your page. Try to implement what you read here and see your AdSense income skyrocket from now onwards!
